Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Need to get Lucky

For this puzzle (like most Dayan puzzles) you need to get sort of lucky whether or not you get a good or terrible one. The thing with the megaminx is most of the time you get bad ones. When I got mine a washer was missing (not sure if factory defect or customs got to it) and the cube turned horribly. I broke it in with a few hundred solves, loosened it and applied a bit of weight 2 and the puzzle got a bit better, but megaminxes like the Yuhu and the Xman did a lot better. Also, the stock stickers on this puzzle are very low quality, and some of the shades are hard to tell apart. The only thing I enjoyed about the cube were it's ridges, but like I said the Xman did it so much better while also having an amazing grip. (The sculpted one)

Great cube (for megaminx speedsolvers)

Ok. So when I got the cube, it wasn't great out of the box., but once I set it up, it was amazing. I disassembled the puzzle and lubed the springs with Maru Lube as well as the pieces. After that, I broke it in, and got a 1:25 single and a 1:46 average. Amazing if you want to be very good at megaminx.

Bad OoB, Acceptable with a few fixes.

TL;DR: If you bought this megaminx and it sucks, either get the replacement core, shorten the springs, get softer springs, or get longer screws, otherwise, just get a YuHu or X-man Megaminx. Those are much newer, better puzzles.

This megaminx was my first, so I don't have much of a frame of reference for a good one. However, out of the box, this thing was just...horrible. It turned badly, was wayy too tight, uneven tensions, and the worst part, it popped screws and centers. Basically, either I had to tighten it enough that it wouldn't pop screws, and it would be too hard to turn and super locky, or I would loosen it to a reasonable tension, and it would pop a screw on the orange side every single solve.

I figured out this is because the springs are too long and strong, and the screws are too short, and/or the core is too small. There's several ways to fix this, and all work in making the Dayan Mega go from a crap puzzle, to pretty good.

What I did was ordered the "Dayan/Mf8 Replacement Megaminx Core" from here on Cubicle, and that fixed the problems I had entirely. The core is bigger, so it allows the screws to be screwed in more without compressing the springs so much, thus resulting in a much more reasonably tensioned puzzle, that won't explode every solve.

The other solution I've heard of, is to just shorten the springs or get shorter springs, which basically has the same effect.

In summary, this megaminx has way too heavy springs, and has massive tension issues, shorten the springs, or buy the replacement core if you want it to not turn like crap.

Honestly, I'd recommend just getting the X-man Galaxy Megaminx, or YJ YuHu. This minx is outdated, and is honestly a gamble whether or not you're going to get a good puzzle, or a project.

Popping

This cube is pretty good, it isn't really fast but now to slow. The ridges are nice and makes it easier to turn. A big issue from this megaminx is the fact that my centercaps keep popping and the screw and the spring also. This happens out of nowhere and it happens on loose tensions and on tight tensions. This is really annoying but it's still deserves 3 stars for it's decent performance.

Good Job Dayan

Ok, so straight out of the box it seemed pretty good although i'm not one to say with this being my first megaminx but i have had experience with other cubes so I'm guessing its speed is ok the feel is 3 starsish but the ridges made it so easy to move, although the stickers were a little off quality i feel this is a great megaminx, good job dayan!!!

Fantastic

This was my first megaminx, so I'm not exactly a speed solver, but wow! This cube is so smooth, straight out of the box! While as I mentioned, I don't speed solve megaminx, I do speed solve other types of cubes, and I can tell that this has the makings of a great speed cube. The ridges are an awesome idea! I don't know how one could ever solve without them! Highly recommend!

Work but Great later on

This cube according to me was expected to do better out of the box but it turned out to be pretty good after some work on it. The tensions came to be tight or off the box and even if you loosen them the centers would pop. First disassemble the cube and look up crazy bad cuber's tutorial on how to lube and tension the cube then the cube turns out great. You also might have to break out in a little bit besides that the cube is really good after work. If you are ready to do the work go ahead and buy it

Not what I expected

I was told this megaminx was very fast but out of the box it is actually very slow. After breaking it in it is slightly better but still very slow. The corner cutting is ok but could be improved on. I would suggest the Yuhu megaminx over this one since it is much better in my opinion.

Get a Yuhu

Out of the box this thing is so tight I couldn't move it so I lube and tensioned it.after I tensioned it, it felt great until it popped 5 times. Yes the screws popped which caused the whole thing to basically fall apart. Now every time I think a face feels smooth or nice I tension the face down so it won't pop. Nice one Dayan.
