GAN17 MagDrive UV 3x3

This cube comes so smooth the magnets are not ti strong and not to weak if tou lube it correctley you will have the best i lubed it with dignitas gravitas fz calm and rush it is so good

I had a chance to try the prototype GAN 17 MagDrive at the Mid-Atlantic Championship, and honestly, I wasn't that impressed with it. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't do much for me.

The final version is a completely different story.

Right out of the box, I liked this cube. It turns incredibly easily, it's surprisingly quiet, and the magnets are strong. What I really like about the MagDrive is that even though you can see and feel how strongly it wants to pull the layers into position, when you're actually solving, the magnets don't feel overpowering. They're strong without feeling strong.

This cube is also FAST. It may actually be a little too fast for me right now, especially for competition, because I found myself accidentally turning layers. But that's more about my turning style than a problem with the cube. With more practice, I could definitely see myself getting used to it.

There are plenty of adjustment options, including center travel, tension, and different magnet strengths, so you can customize the cube to your liking.

I'm not a speedcubing expert - I just know what I like, and I really like the GAN 17 MagDrive. I don't think it's necessarily going to be the perfect cube for everyone, so if you get a chance to try one before buying it, I recommend doing that.

For me, though, I have no complaints about the cube itself.

But an android is cheaper than an iPhone but the iPhone feels nicer. That’s why you buy this cube. It’s feels premium. So is it worth it? No but it feels nice

Now, I got this cube at the physical store in Shanghai, so it might not be accurate. When I unboxed this cube, it felt great. Most people don't like dry cubes, but it does feel good on this cube. The 20 magnet bong core feels great on this cube. I average 25 and I got a 15 on my second solve. However, there are 2 defects on the cube. First, some corners have this sandy feel when rubbing across the corner of the corner. However, I think it will go away with an ao100 or smth. Secondly, I heard some shaking noises in the cube. I took a look at the adjustment system, and turns out a part was halfway loose on all the centers. But, there is a fix to this. Just tighten the cube a little bit and you should be alright. Overall, great cube, can't wait for the 18 Ultra (GAN = Apple reference)!

It is great! I think it is the best gan cube yet and it is different enough from the 16 and it is clear in this cube where the money is going. IT LITERALLY HAS 196 MAGNETS

First, I want to say that the cube feels more durable than the 16 MAX, because the plastic caps for the pieces are thicker.

The cube itself in my opinion doesn’t feel as smooth as the 16 MAX. It feels more cohesive with more plastic to plastic contact. It’s smooth, but not as smooth which I don’t think is because of the magnets. Speaking of the magnets, the MagDrive system I do really like. It truly does feel like full 90 degree magnetic pull. When a turn is about to complete, it feels much stronger than the 16. Even with heavy lube, the cube still fully auto-aligned which impressed me. I used the same lube and tension set up and the corner cutting actually seems to be better somehow. The piece design looks pretty much the same but it definitely feels different and is a tiny bit louder.

I’ve done several hundred solves upon writing this review, and I’m not sure if I like it more than the 16 MAX, and it is interesting that they’re the same price. I kinda like my 16 MAX more because of its quiet smoothness, but I like the 17 MagDrive’s magnetic feel more. Maybe I still need to get used it still lol, but for now, I’m still used the 16.

I still do recommend this cube if you are a GAN main as they’re the same price.

I haven’t owned a MoYu since the v10, so I can’t say much about that. Definitely better than Tornado v5, sorry QiYi.

For those who owned a GAN 12 or twos gens ago the 15, definitely get this or the 16 MAX if you like those. They are on another level.

Nice and crunchy cube, lubed this with some super honey, mystic, and rush! Really love the feel of the setup I've got 4-4 as my settings. My only complaint about this cube so far is there is a bit of a loose fit on the center caps, I've had problems with them feeling loose and rattling. The cube is less stable than the 16 but if you change the magnets to green than it’s much better and the mag drive has a noticeable effect. I think it’s great

Its a great cube smooth fast especially if uou pube it correctly

I will be comparing this cube with the 12, 13, 15, and 16 max, along with giving a vivid description of what to expect.

If you have a 12 and you like it, I'd say you can try this cube but the 16 max is a much much much better option
If you have a 13 and like it, you can get this cube if you want to waste money because this cube is literally just a 13 but with more catching and magnets
If you have the 15 (absolute trash btw) and you liked it, you can get this cube if you want since it is better but the 16 max is a MUCH better choice
If you have a 16 already, DO NOT BUY THIS CUBE. It is a downgrade despite having all these new features.

The actual cube itself feels way to clackity and catchy (if you have a 13 or 15 you know what I mean). I've tried most settings (including the ones on my 16 that have no catching) along with my favorite lube setup (dignitas, rush, and stealth), and it still feels horrible to turn. The "magdrive" stuff is extremely poorly designed. The whole point of it was to aid your turns but all it does is make the magnets rods TOUCH the core causing weird stops and catches. The magnets themselves ARE EXTREMELY WEAK (almost even gan 356 levels of weak) and the force from them feels EXACTLY like the 13, which is a HORRIBLE cube if you're coming from any moyu or the gan 12. In addition to that, I've also recieved a defective edge (factory error with spikes on it's tracks) which further aided the catching and harmed the already horrible feeling of the cube even more. These defects seem to be a trend in other peoples' purchases as well such as weird rattling and loose parts. To sum it all up, this cube doesn't deserve to be the successor of the 16 max and should really be called "the gan 13 v2". Instead of going for this cube go for the 12, V100, or 16 max or maybe even a moyu option.
