Product Description

The Carl's Bubbloid 4x4x5 is a shape-preserving 4x4x5 corner-turning cuboid developed by Carl Hoff, David Ang, and Calvin's Puzzles. It has a very sturdy, substantial feel, and it features the Calvin's and Carl Logo.

Please be advised that the puzzle as it is shipped from the manufacturer does not have much corner-cutting ability, although it does turn well when it is aligned properly. The manufacturer has noted that removing the springs from the corners will improve the corner-cutting on this puzzle.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Lovely concept, absolutely poor mechanism

Oddly, it is both too loose and too tight at the same time. The side pieces are barely held in place, and yet the corner twists are so stiff and the mechanism wants to catch on itself at all times. Everything needs to be aligned perfectly just to make a simple twist.

Within a ten minutes of unboxing, it had popped. Two days later and three attempts at reassembly have all failed. Following videos, following the suggestion in the other review, nothing has worked.

Probably just easier to use software to simulate this puzzle if you want the challenge, because the physical puzzle is the biggest letdown I've had since the mf8 2x3x4.

Looks great, but really needs some work.

Was unusable out of the box, catching was preventing any turning whatsoever. Disassembled checked everything out, then i found schltztm's advice in anothere review on this page which gave it some improvement.
Tightening all of the corners then loosening 1/2 turn seems to have helped.
The puzzle is usable now, i plan to give it some breaking in before lubing it.
There are some parts in the tracks that the pieces follow that are very sharp for lack of a better word. If it's still catching badly after breaking in then I think I'll check out where i can trim these sharp edges down.
Great looking puzzle. Needs some love before being ready to solve thouh.

Great puzzles... if you follow these steps!

Follow these easy steps if your puzzle isn't turning correctly:

The first shipment of these and maybe others have really bad turning issues. All you need to do to fix it is; FIRST thoroughly CHECK that all of the PIECES are seated properly, and FULLY CLICKED into place, there should be almost NO GAPS or PROTRUSIONS.
NEXT, REMOVE the corner CAPS by turning a corner 45* degrees and pulling the ADJACENT corner cap OFF, then TIGHTEN down all of the SCREWS all of the way tight, then SLIGHTLY LOOSEN them 1/2-2 turns or until they are turning well while also maintaining STABILITY. And that should hopefully do it.

These are very GREAT puzzles! Any turning issues aside, they are very fun to solve not too hard but not super easy either, just the right amount to where it's not too long of a solve. It's so great to see this wonderful puzzle design get mass produced!
