Product Description

The mf8 Petaminx is a 12-sided puzzle with one more layer per side than the Teraminx for a total of 4 layers surrounding each center. The Petaminx is without a doubt one of the largest puzzles currently in production. The puzzle is fully pre-stickered with the standard mf8 color scheme.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Decent

it turns nice but when setting it up i could not lube the core because the centers were pushed in so much i couldn't get to the screw, I also magnetized the puzzle too. But it is a good puzzle.

Good on its own, great with some work

This puzzle is an incredible feat of engineering. To think that thousands of pieces of plastic could move in unison to create an incredibly difficult and stimulating intellectual challenge is simply amazing. Of the bat, I will immediately give my endorsement to this puzzle, you should definitely buy it if you're considering it. But that isn't without a few recommendations.

As awe inspiring as this puzzle is, the build quality leaves something to be desired. A little work should bring out the best in it, though.

1.) Sticker quality is noticeably low, the stickers appear papery and cheap. They fall off quite easily, and deform even easier. When comparing to the thicker plastic and vinyl stickers found on other large puzzles, I'd say the stickers could be much better. This specific version is pre-stickered, but I would rather sticker it myself if it meant better stickers, which is exactly what I ended up doing. A few other online sellers have sets available.

2.) Quality of the external plastic pieces seems good, but a considerable amount of flash is noticeable on several pieces, especially edge pieces. Rubbing them off with your fingernail is sufficient, as they fall right off, I'd give a good look all around the puzzle once you inbox it, and get rid of all the flash.

3.) Turn quality, according to video reviews I watched before buying the puzzle was hit and miss. Some appeared to turn great, others were incredibly stiff. The one I ordered was among the stiff ones. It was the single most stiff, sluggish puzzles I ever experienced our of the box. With a bit of work, however, it now turns great. I first turned every layer on every face a total of 20 complete rotations. Then I popped off all the center caps, and loosened the screws by about 2.5 full turns. Then I used a combo of Traxxas 50k and maru between the layers and voila. Turns very similarly to a Shengshou 11x11 now.

After breaking in, tensioning, lubricating, and snickering the puzzle, I'd say it's world's better. Given the amount of moving pieces, I'd say it would be extremely tough to mass produce a perfect, premium product. However, when looking at something like the Moyu 13x13 which I believe achieved that premium quality, you wonder what could've been for the Petaminx. This puzzle, if you work on it slightly, is 100% worth every penny. It's like no other puzzle you'll ever solve, it will challenge your wit and patience, and it will make for a fantastic addition to any collection. If puzzle solving is a mountain, solving the Petaminx surely means you've reached the summit.

Review

It turns well, but alignment is a huge issue here. Lubrication is a MUST for this puzzle; it'll turn terribly without it. Mine came pre-stickered, but I can just imagine how much of a pain it would be to sticker. Oh, and make sure you have superglue on hand, because those little tiny pointy-edge stickers are guranteed to peel. In fact, one of them already fell off on mine. I don't want to resticker it, since I already love the MF8 shades, and you can't buy these shades anywhere else online. In other words, you can buy stickers, but they will not come with the default MF8 shades. Like the previous review says, "You have to be a huge cuber to buy this." I can confirm: That statement is in fact correct. It takes eight to ten hours to solve, and I have already spend a week on it. So, if you have time, patience, superglue, lubricant, and over $200 on hand, go ahead and buy this. If you are missing one of these requirements, try buying a Shengshou Gigaminx first.

Its fine and has some locking.

This Petaminx is a lot better than the Teraminx. Outer layers are OK. But, the outer layers are the worst turning layers. They don't suck, but I said outer layers are worse than the others because 2nd, 3rd, and 4th layers turn extremely well. Sometimes when people try speed solving, it can lock up sometimes. so I give this Petaminx a 5.5/10.

Mf8 Petaminx

First off, this cube is absolutely massive. I was also surprised by its weight. The cube turned terribly out of the box. It locked up a lot and was very stiff. After breaking it in it had smoother turning. It was still locked up a lot, though. I think I will need to lubricate and tension this cube. I love the sticker shades of this cube; I don't think i will need to replace them. The little stickers don't seem to fall off, but they chip a little bit. Overall, I think this is an awesome cube. If you like big minx puzzles, I 100% recommend this.
