Product Description

The Troy Truncated 3D-Star is a 3x3 shape mod that resembles two pyraminxes fused together, but in this iteration the tips have been flattened. The challenge is understanding how the pieces are supposed to align in the solved state. A very fun and innovative design from Troy Robinson.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

Finally got mass produced!

I met Troy at USA national 2017 and he 3D printed this puzzle and sold it to me. I always thought that this puzzle would get mass produced and now it is! This is a great puzzle and a must have for anyone that loves shape mods 😁👍

Nice shape-mod

This is a fun 3x3 shape-mod. Although not as artistic looking as the non-truncated version, this puzzle is easier to work with. The possibilities of 'parities' of false equivocation add to the challenge. Highly recommended.

Compact

This version of the 3D Star puzzle is so much more condensed.
Well, really it's the same size of the 3D Star with the points. This truncated version is eeasier to move. Whether that's manipulating the pieces or tossing into a cube bag to bring along with you.
The interesting feature I first noticed is how the points of the star, being sort of snipped off, are one decided color. This can be frustrating at first; But, as soon as your eyes adapt to viewing this puzzle, it becomes preferable to the other version of this puzzle.
At least that's my take on this puzzle.
Overall, OOTB, this puzzle is a sturdy and great looking puzzle. The movement is nice and smooth.
Personally, I am using this version to better understand than the non-truncated version. I find that it's simply easier to make a small gesture of .my hands/wrists to see the side vs a larger arm movements to see the sides. Because of that, it may trim some time off on the total solve time. Still this isn't a WCA Puzzle...yet. ;)
I have been very, very pleased with this puzzle.

keeping the colors straight is a delightful challenge

having become just enamored with shape mods, learning a new puzzle is always a frustrating but ultimately rewarding experience, and this was the most intense 3x3 I've played with yet! I struggled through three solves before finally understanding how to juggle the edges properly and keep the colors straight. combined with the fact that the edges come in identical pairs that end up in opposite directions, it can leads to situations that look like a strange corner swap parity, before you realize you have to swap an edge with its twin to get the last corners into a solvable state. also note that ootb it can be a bit catchy, but loosening the screws slightly and giving it a touch of lube makes it much, much smoother. really, just my favorite shape mod I've tried so far.

A beautiful mind twister!

I really like the tricky mind bending Troy 3-D Stars, both the full-size and this cute Truncated Troy 3-D Star. It really is not that much easier than the full-size Troy Star. I'm grateful to RCPongo for this very different challenge. Unfortunately the turning is very bumpy on mine, perhaps others are better. Out of the box it was extremely tight. I loosened it a bit. The center caps are deep so I needed to remove two opposite edge pieces for each center cap in order to get them out. While it is smooth-turning, it still catches and overall is not as stable as the full-size Troy 3-D Star. A great shame! I'm going to tighten it a little and see if that cuts out some catchiness.
I love solving it for the challenge of the duplicating colors,, the unusual shape, and the drama of possible parties!
If you think you know F2L and 3x3's, think again. You'll find some surprises. You must stay awake for this one - even the last stage corner rotation can trip you up! FUN!! And a great price too!!
