Product Description

The mf8 Unicorn Cube is a 3x3 shape mod with 4 rotatable corners, each of which includes a complete corner and part of 3 edges and centers. The additional moves allow the puzzle to be scrambled in more ways than a traditional 3x3.

The primary plastic version is limited edition.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

This has become my Favorite Cube. Stickerless.

This is a hybrid of a Rubik's and a Dino cube. If you are familiar with older cubes, this is a Grilles II cube with one less layer on the corner turning side and better hardware.

It isn't hard. If you can solve a 3x3x3 picture cube or super cube, you won't need to learn any more algorithms, but the solution method is significantly longer. You don't need to learn the 4x4x4 to solve this.

Because it's not too easy but not too hard, and because of it's ease of turning, the Unicorn cube has been my favorite puzzle of the last few months. It's just a fun solve and a solid cube.

Cool puzzle but very bad turning

This cube wasnt hard to solve and is very unique. The turning quality is just terrible. It feels similar to a dollar store cube in how the plastic feels and how the pieces lock up because they are so pointy. Turning fast on this puzzle is out of the question. I wish a company like qiyi would make this puzzle because i think they would put effort into the feel of the puzzle.

Unique Corner

I love this unique take on a #x#x# cube. Don't be confused with the arrangements and shapes of the pieces. This is a 4x4.
OOTB this puzzle moved well enough but adding lube certainly helps.
This looks amazing with the classic checkerboard pattern, scrambled or solved. I think if you're looking for a simple challenge but crave something a little different from the #x# big cubes this is what I recommend.
It's advisable to be able to be able to solve a 3x3 & 4x4 on your own before tackling this. You will then find the solve a little more fulfilling.
I the difficulty level is around an easy to mid range experience level.

turns ok

It turns ok, but is a very fun puzzle to solve, and isn't to hard.

Fun challenge

The turning is ok, lock ups are expected since there are so many turning pieces and sometimes the corners can be hard to twist in both directions.

The overall solve is fun to figure out but not too challenging. Id say for difficulty it gets a 6/10. The hardest part is figuring out how to cycle the little center corners.

If you have 20 dollars hanging around and want a fun puzzle for an afternoon I'd recommend picking this one up.

Fun, looks great, and turns fine

The Unicorn Cube is just as fun as it looks. Coming up with it's solution was not too difficult, but it's a very entertaining puzzle to mess with and try to figure out. The turning is ok, with lockups happening here and there. The turning does not impede the solving process very much, and I'd still recommend this puzzle to any intermediate or above cubers.

Looks Fun, but Needs Some Work.

I've yet to scramble the cube, but it does look like it'll be a fun solve. As for the puzzle itself, I was a bit surprised by how cheap and low quality it looks and feels, given the price. This is my first MF8 brand puzzle and I wasn't expecting a speed cube, but I was expecting at least LanLan or Dayan level quality overall. I bought the stickerless version so I don't know if perhaps the stickered versions are made slightly better or if they perform the same, but I agree with Nic N. about how the plastic feels slightly above what you'd get from dollar store toys. It's thin and cheaply molded with various cosmetic defects in the plastic from several discoloration spots, some specks of black contamination, bad flow lines and some warpage (particularly on the center caps), heavy sink spots (especially on the small inner triangle pieces), but the worst part was that every piece had flash on it that was making the turning even worse. The small inner triangle pieces were the worst since I couldn't do dino cuts without them causing the center caps to go flying off. Out of the 50 puzzles I own, this is the only one that has ever popped on me (even if it's just the caps) and the only one I've had to modify. I disassembled the puzzle and spent 4 hours carefully trimming the flash off of each piece where it needed to be removed, then reassembled and tensioned the puzzle to a good point where it was loose enough to turn better, but not to the point where the small inner corner pieces would cause bad lockups. I don't think you need to trim every piece like I did, but I would at least recommend trimming the flash from the inner small corner pieces if you're having trouble doing dino turns or your caps are popping off too. Also, get some tape for the bottom layer to make reassembly much easier if you take it apart.
The puzzle definitely needs lube, some breaking in, and should loosen up that flash on its own after a while with a few headaches and pops along the way. Now that I've modified the puzzle, it's turning much better than before. Not great, but better. I can almost get a layer to fully quarter turn with a firm finger flick. The dino turns are smoother now and not causing any more caps to pop off no matter how hard I try to force it to. I would give it a 3.5 as it is now and maybe a 4 after it full breaks in. I would still recommend this puzzle if you're interested in the solve and are willing to put in the time to break it in or do some slight modifications.

Interesting

As soon as I got it, the center orange cap was not there. Other than that, great puzzle. Turns great and a great solve

Stickered version

Great additional fun added to standard 3X3! Additional fun from a single corner twisted "parity" (or whatever it is technically called). Small stickers are not as much of an issue on this one as they are on the Crazy version.

Great puzzle!

Unicorn Cube is fun and different but could be better

The turning is a bit stiff, but not a problem unless you want to speed-solve. Lock-ups are rare, unless you're going for speed. My only serious complaint is the sticker quality: all the square stickers have visible creases and a few random ones were curling at the edges or had bubbles underneath. Very minor complaint is the cut depth from the corners is a bit too shallow, leaving very tiny triangles around the centers (this is an artistic opinion, it doesn't affect how the puzzle plays).

This is a fun puzzle to solve! It's something like a cross between a 3x3 and a 4x4. If you can solve both of them, you can solve this by learning/thinking just a bit more.

For example, it has true center pieces, like a 3x3, but the edge pieces come in pairs like a 4x4. You never get parity errors with edge pieces (common with 4x4 cube), but you can get a parity error which is impossible on any NxN cube: it is possible to solve the entire puzzle except one corner is turned wrong! Finally, it is a "bandaged" cube because, in some states, some (or all) of the corners can not be twisted (from a solved state, you can twist any corner).

Arguably a better puzzle than a 5x5 cube which just uses the same techniques of 3x3 and 4x4. A good one to add to a collection.
