Type A Chun2 - DIY Kit

Before I start with my review, I will go over how I set this cube up.

I used the screws and the core from one of the qiyi sails I purchased for a science experient. I also just used the black springs that came with the product. I decided to forgo the metal plates as well.

The peices are pretty empty with little plastic. The plastic is very very durable however.

The feeling is really odd. It's probably the clickiest cube you will probably find, and also the lightest, only at 58 grams. Under my setup, it can cut aboUT 45 standadd and one whole peice reverse. This cube never popped on me, and is pleasant puzzle to turn with my turning style. Not to mention thst since it is so light, your hands won't grow tired.

I do say there are a few catches, but they aren't all the time, and are rather rare.

It is also rather worth noting that this is also the third cube that gave me a sub 40 average, other than the qiyi sail and gans 356.

I was just expectin a sub-par cube and I would just need to use my aolong v2 as a main, but this cube surprised me. I made this my main, and will probably stay my main for a very long time.

Thecubicle's involvement was as always, amazing. The cube itself, make sure you get a new set of springs (I just grabbed some from another cube), the metal clips, don't do the folding over bit, I didn't and haven't had any issues. The cube isn't going to win competitions, but it is unique and I have worse cubes. The cube takes time to break in, metal clips eventually stay without floating, just push the corners in sometimes, but now that it's broken in after a week, it's smooth, very light. If you like to just get any cube, go for it, if you're looking for a main, don't get it.

I'd hate to give a bad review but this cube is going to get just that. The assembly process was difficult, and with no assembly video to look onto, I was on my own. Aside from the metal pieces (Which Josh has put up a great video on how to make those work, URL in his review), you'll find that you have two spring sets to go with the core that have a certain place, or else your Cube will be just too loose. (Black springs go inside of the center pieces, silver ones go onto the screw after it is inserted through the center piece).

Once I got to assembling the pieces into the core, another problem arose; The pieces all have small holes in them (Intentional ones, mind you.), and so the edge can get caught in there if you're not careful. Also the corner pieces don't quite like to hook into the edges either during the assembly, so it took a bit of elbow grease to get it together.

Once it was assembled and tensioned, the puzzle still was flimsy, it caught on itself quite a lot, all in all I can't say that I recommend this Cube unless you're going to do Josh's mod.

My final thoughts are that though this Cube is flimsy and catchy, it is at least better than a Rubik's Brand. The Metal pieces are an interesting gimick but they get in the way. Would I recommend it? Only if you are willing to mod it, otherwise, I'd suggest you look else where for your DIY needs.

I really like this cube. It's a small and lightweight cube. I found I liked it more without the metal parts though it has some control issues like that. Put some lube on any contact point you can find and it begs be turned fast without the metal bits.

With the metal parts it just lighter than a 55mm Zhanchi. Without the metal parts it is lighter than a 50mm Zhanchi and Zhanchis are considered light cubes. This thing is lighter than some of the minis.
