Product Description

The mf8 Sunminx is a megaminx shape mod that has split edges that can also be scrambled due to the fact that turns are not limited to 72 degrees. After a half turn (36 degrees), you can then turn adjacent faces to make the puzzle shape-shift.

Our Promise to You

All of our products are guaranteed to be free of defects, or we will replace and reship at no cost to you. Please contact us within 4 weeks (28 days) past the delivery date to report any issues with items you have purchased.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

A Beautiful Pain of a Puzzle

I have over 70 different types of puzzles, so I am all about having a big, complex variant on the dodecahedron like the Sunminx...that said, it’s been a generally frustrating puzzle so far. Odd puzzles like these are always tough because there aren’t a lot of tutorials out there, so it takes more figuring out on my own than most other puzzles. SuperAntonioVivaldi is a big help in his 3-vid series on the Sunminx. Still, it’s a hard puzzle, and has some hidden bandaging that makes it a real test of patience. I have yet to actually figure much of it out...I know I will but it will be sort of a “beautiful pain” in the process.

The puzzle feels solid but is pretty stiff and doesn’t turn very quickly. The smallest pieces in the middle like to catch on almost every turn, so it’s a real test of patience just to make turns on this thing...but it’s a beautiful puzzle and one that I will very much forward to frustrating me for several months before I ultimately solve it.

Phenomenal Dodecahedral

I've just watched how each rotation interacts with the other side. In algorithm terms white being the U face then R'D'RD pictured. R'D'RD 6 will return you to the solved state.
Working with this puzzle, I've found that it is very difficult to move. It's as if there's too much tension.
Even after adding a lot of lube, the movements are choppy and then locks up.
I've inadvertently and partially scrambled the puzzle, no pix. I was able to solve it as a 3x3.
I do have a picture of the last layer.
After all is said and done, this puzzle will solve just like a megaminx, after the edges are correctly paired, I assume. (I haven't thoroughly scrambled this yet)
I will advise this to any serious collector who enjoys solving a megaminx and is patient.

Great Puzzle, truly difficult

Warning to anyone considering buying this, It is very difficult to solve, most difficult I've encountered in my 15 years of cubing, took me a month to solve with the help of matlab to brute force generating some algorithms. If you can't solve it DO NOT DISASSEMBLE, it isnt worth it, it is a difficult but fun challenge to solve, it is difficult and *frustrating* (understatement) to assemble. Again by far the most difficult puzzle to assemble i've ever encountered.

The puzzle is high quality, turns well, and is sturdy. I would still be careful when turning it to prevent the tiny stickers from peeling off, and to prevent pops (not that I've had it pop on me, but in the off chance it does pop, it WILL explode completely due to the nature of its mechanism). Overall I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a puzzle solve to challenge them in a way that other puzzles don't, by far the most rewarding solve I have done, (give it an honest go before looking up solution tutorials).

Great puzzle

After mastering my Sun Cube and Dayan Bagua cube puzzles, this seemed like a fun next step. The Sunminx is built like a brick, very stable. It can get a little catchy here and there, but since it's not a speed puzzle taking a little extra care with my turns doesn't bother me. It does bandage internally, though. So just make sure that a catch is just a catch and that you're still able to make the turn that you're attempting. I haven't had any issues or worries about it popping. However, if you force past a catch some of the edge pieces can separate from one another. It's only happened once and was easy to feel, spot, and fix.

Highly recommended puzzle especially if you enjoy the challenge of the Sun Cube or the Dayan Bagua Cube.
