Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.
The corners on 2x2 puzzles should not be twisted as doing so may snap the piece. Damage caused by corner twisting is not considered to be a defect.

My original square one main was the first mass-produced where one from the 1990s so I got this one instead because I have a 3 by 3 by 5 by Calvin's puzzle and I thought it was good but when I got it it popped and I lost a piece and then I found it and I put it back in thinking it was the only time it was going to pop in my opinion you should get a qiyi it's cheaper and it's better
This cube pops like crazy, you should just get a speed cube instead, it would be way cheaper and better sticker quality. Calvins Puzzle, Mefferts, and Rubiks are all cube companies you should avoid. Their puzzles are way too expensive for something not even 1% worth it, and when they try to make quality puzzles its always an epic fail (Like the RSC or Mefferts Pyraminx).
The Calvins Square-1 is definitely for beginners to square-1. When I got the cube, it was very dry and tight. I tried loosening it and adding some DNM-37. It then became very smooth and fast. The down side to that was it wasnt very controllable, unless you turned it slow. The cube also pops a lot when you loosen it up, and even pops when youve done nothing to the cube. I would not recommend buying this cube unless you are just starting square-1 like me.
Out of the box, this cube was pretty sandy, with fast U and D slices. I found that the U and D slices are way too fast for me, so I put in some Lubicle silk.
The cube locks up and pops whenever I try to turn fast. When turning slower, it still has minor catching issues, but popping doesn't usually occur.
The sticker quality is good, however the orange and green shades are a little bit weird.
Overall, this cube gets a 3/5 for me because of the popping issues.
The catching isn't too bad, as I get catching on my QiYi, but the popping is an issue.
If you're serious about getting into Square-1, just get an X-Man Volt or the QiYi.
I can't really recommend this puzzle because it's too pricey. Get this if you want it for collection purposes or modding.
This is my first square-1. Out of the box, the middle slice was fast and smooth, the top and bottom layer were rough, sandy and hard to turn. Since the top and bottom layers were horrible, i put some Traxxas 50k on the pieces which made the top and bottom layers smooth just like the middle slice. Stickers were O.K, I recommend replacing the stickers. The plastic was poorly injected into the mold (In my opinion). When I tried to take a edge piece out to lube the pieces, the edge broke! I super glued the piece back together and the cube functioned perfectly fine again. Overall, this cube is good. It's not the best square-1 anymore, (Qiyi or Weilong Square-1 are the best now).
I Had it for less than 1 day and it popped Very loose out of the box one piece kept sticking out
When I got this cube the first turn was a pop! It does not stop popping! Also, this cube has very poor turning. Just for fun I tightened it as far as it could go and it still popped! Get the Qiyi.
This cube is pretty good. I like the feel, and the speed is pretty good. OOTB the top and bottom layers were a little rough, but breaking in has made them really nice. My only real gripe with this cube is that it can't really corner cut (if you try, it pops), and the caps constantly fall out. Glueing them in will help, but I don't want to have to do that. Overall though, the feel of this cube makes me want to keep playing with it. It's smooth, with a kind of papery feel and I personally really like it.
I bought this Calvin's Square 1 a few months ago. The cube out of the box was very awful, especially the top and bottom layers. The top and bottom layers are both stiff and hard to fingertrick. The middle slice is alright, but the spring noise is very annoying. Also, I think some parts/mechanism fell apart inside the cube when I was testing it so now I have this weird "thing" in my cube. Whenever I shake the cube, there is a noise. Moreover, sometimes the center caps fall out during turning. I definitely think this cube will perform a lot better if lubricated; however it does not change the fact that is cube is terrible out of the box. Overall, this cube is just bad. In the end, I would not recommend anyone to buy this cube.
First off if you are buying this cube you have to get lube with it because without lubing this cube it is horrible (3 stars without lube). This is due to the top and bottom layers being awful. With the lube it is fantastic but the only problem is that some caps fall off.
