The CubeTwist Square-1 is smooth right out of the box. It comes pre-stickered.
Note: The Black version comes in a Square-2 box, but it is still a Square-1.

Please note that some new cubes when being used for the first few times may experience what is termed a "pop". This is when one or more parts of a puzzle pop out without any damage actually being done to any of the pieces. This also occurs from time to time during normal usage. Pops are typically not considered a defect if the parts which come off can be reassembled by hand.

This was my first Square-1 and comparing it to the QiYi, this cube is absolute garbage. First off, you can NOT speed cube with this. I have done 21 solves until I gave up on this. This cube CONSTANTLY pops! I had to tension this not 1, not 2, not even 3, but FOUR times! All because it kept popping every time I tried to go fast. This cube pops every time you try to corner cut this. A cube shouldn't pop (or even explode) when you try to corner cut! It should at least lock up.
tl;dr: Save up for a QiYi, this pops too much.
This sucks and pops so bad.Investing a little more so you can get a Qiyi Square-1 because it doesn't POP!
This square 1 is very very smooth out of the box, and the turning quality is good. However this square-1 pops everytime i try to solve this thing and it is an absolute pain to put back together. Also the caps fall off constantally. Just get a qiyi you will be satisfied for a long time. Never get this.
Really good out of the box, mine came lubed and tightened nicely. The biggest issue is the tiles fall off if dropped, but other than that it's a perfectly good cube.
Nice and smooth out of the box. After a bit of lube, this thing really flies. Corner cutting is nonexistant, but as this isn't really a speedcube, it's not an issue.
This is my first Square-1, and probably my last. I am absolutely horrible at remembering the algorithms, with the completely different notation and the fact that there's sooooo many of them. ALL OF THE EDGES AND CORNERS are capped, and they fall off CONSTANTLY. It gets so frustrating, so I don't solve it often. (Sorry, Julian.)
Pretty good Square-1. It was my first square-1, so I had nothing to compare it to. It does pop on occasion, and the sticker quality isn't that good. But other than that, it's pretty good!
this is smooth, but the problem is there is no corner cutting, so not a good idea if you gonna do sped cubing on this puzzle
Great puzzle! This was my first Square-1, and it was incredibly smooth out of the box! I'm still trying to figure it out, and I've only solved it twice, but it's an absolute pleasure to solve!
Out of the box the cube was stiff, but with further lubrication and tensioning, the cube turned out great. No pun intended. It turns smoothly and quickly. There really isn't any corner cutting, but who needs it for a square 1. However, the cube locks up a lot. In addition, the caps occasionally fall off. All in all , the Cubetwist Square 1 is a very good cube and I recommend it for anyone who wants to try out a puzzle different then the usual 3x3. :)
